Fighting for Our Public Schools

For over two decades, Meriam has chosen to live in Pennsylvania to raise her family. There is no other place she would consider calling home. Access to quality education is essential, and she will work tirelessly to ensure that our children have the support and resources they need to succeed.

Meriam’s approach centers on providing opportunities for teachers, parents, and students to collaborate on creating a robust and engaging learning experience. She will fight to raise academic standards, encourage fair funding, and bolster our trade programs so our kids can continue to get the best education possible.

How Meriam Will Help

Fair Funding for All Five Local Districts

A state court ruled that Pennsylvania did not fund schools fairly. Harrisburg must now send real aid to all five local districts, not another one-time grant.

❌ Milou Mackenzie voted no on a state budget with $1 billion in new K–12 funds. She also voted no on the fair school plan in HB 2370.

No to Vouchers

Most local families use public schools. Their tax dollars should stay in those classrooms, not go to private schools with fewer rules. Public money belongs in public schools.

❌ Milou Mackenzie co-sponsored HB 1432. It would use public funds to pay private school tuition.

Supporting Teachers

Good teachers need fair pay, smaller classes, and safe schools. PSEA and AFT Pennsylvania have endorsed Meriam because she will stand up for public education.

❌ Milou Mackenzie backed plans that pull money from public schools. Those plans also put Harrisburg between teachers and families.

Career and Technical Education

College is not the only path to a good job. Meriam backs hands-on training in welding, health care, building trades, and tech. Students gain real skills. Local firms find good workers.

❌ Milou Mackenzie voted against a wide school funding plan. That money would help pay for staff, buildings, and student programs.

Keeping Politics Out of the Classroom

Teachers know their students. Parents know their kids. Harrisburg should not ban books or turn each lesson into a political fight. Meriam will trust local schools and families to do their jobs.
